Don’t Fear the Messy Bun: Taming Next Day Hair

There’s nothing like walking out of the salon with fresh color, a brand new cut, and a killer blowout. Your hair looks amazing and you’re probably strutting just a little bit, right? Chances are you want to put off washing your hair for as long as possible (well, maybe for a day or two) so you can keep the amazing look that the stylist made look so easy. Eventually we have to say bye-bye to our fabulous mane and do our best to recreate the look.

Actually, even if we’re doing our own hair, sometimes next day hair looks even better than it did twenty-four hours ago. Depending on your hair type (straight, wavy or ringlets; fine, thick or thin) your hair might take on a sexy, gorgeous look twenty-four hours after showering. Or what if you don’t have time to shower for a day- what then? There are plenty of easy, fun ways to make next-day hair look brand new.

Say your alarm clock doesn’t go off and you bolt up in bed and realize you have an important meeting in thirty minutes. Remember Anne Hathaway in Devil Wears Prada? She was always rushing around and looking fabulous. Granted, she had a team of professionals giving her that “real” next day look on set, but you can do it too. If your hair isn’t looking 100% or there’s buildup and you don’t have time to shower, try a pretty and professional looking headband. It will hide any buildup and look tres chic, especially if you pair it with a cute ponytail or topknot.

If your hair is a little tangled, don’t freak out! That’s the beauty of messy buns and ponytails. Just smooth away any frizz and flyaway strands with product and pull your hair into a cute messy ponytail. You can add a cute barrette for some extra style. Just make sure you’re doing a stylish messy ‘do and you’re not walking out of the house looking like you have a bird’s next on your head.

Finally, you can try a braid or French braid to tame your next day tresses. (Take a look at Kristen Stewart’s Braid + Messy Bun) Play around and see what style works for you. There are also a lot of great dry shampoos out there today that can help give second day hair a newly washed feel. No one needs to know but you!

So see what works for you and make sure you have some headbands, clips, and barrettes on hand for those last-minute fixes. We can’t walk out of the salon every day, but was can make it look like we did.
